Sustainable wood procurement
Certified origin of wood

M-real’s wood procurement is conducted by the parent company Metsäliitto Cooperative in compliance with legislation and regulations while considering the economic, social and environmental aspects of wood harvesting.

Metsäliitto Cooperative’s logging sites are regularly audited internally and externally and attention is paid, for instance, to the quality of the management of the forest environment. Modern wood harvesting technology is used in order to avoid damaging the forest land, protected sites, key habitats and other sites of importance in terms of biodiversity or landscape values.

Metsäliitto has a certified chain-of-custody in all its wood supply countries. The ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified quality and environmental management systems of Metsäliitto Cooperative also include a wood-origin tracking system. Thorough documentation and the latest technology, including digital maps, are used to track the wood flow from the forest to the mill. The PEFC and FSC chain-of-custody systems used in the mills enable M-real to verify the share of certified wood in the products.
